"What would it mean to your business to break the rules and be niche plus mass plus expensive?"
I have been struggling with this one.
I absolutely want it and the quality of the product/service I offer can support an expensive price tag, but my clients are schools and I feel duty bound to deliver something they can afford.
This is in my heart, but my head is saying that is rubbish.
Here is what happend to me:
A Headteacher bought 1-2-1 coaching from me for £X which was subsidised giving them coaching for £3X.
The Headteacher loved the coaching got real value out of it and wanted to engage BlueKite in another coaching assignment.
The budget she set aside was £2X (so she was going to spend twice as much as the school had spent last time, but the total budget was two thirds of the previous total)
When she asked what £2X would buy her I said it would get her just slightly less than she would got last time - error number 1
Then she asked how much it would be to bring the assignment to the equivalent of the previous package, but without the 360 diagnostic. I added a figure that took it well below the £3X - error number 2.
In my heart I was thinking that she wouldn't be able to afford £3X.
Afterwards my head evaluated what had happened and said "She knows the value in what she is getting from you, she knows how much she paid last time and therefore she will pay top price for what she she can afford. This is a 'nice to have' that she has allocated budget to, the budget is not finalised yet, you should have just gone for it.
I have yet to have had to negotiate an assignment on price, I have had no one tell me I was too expensive, I have had a client who was funded initialy pay more per session for coaching for the second assignment (hmmm yes, just realised that I have -great learning).
Thanks Kiki for your inspiration
